Dr. Karl Thadeus Bednarek is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He has lived and attended school in the New York, New Jersey area since he was a child. Dr. Karl Thadeus Bednarek earned a bachelor of science in biology from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY. He then attended the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY where he was awarded his medical degree.
After graduating from medical school, Dr. Karl Thadeus Bednarek completed an internship and residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, NY. He completed his formal medical training with a fellowship in gastroenterology at Beth Israel Medical Center. Since 1985, he has been certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Since 1993, he has been certified by the American Board of Gastroenterology.
Throughout the years, Dr. Karl Thadeus Bednarek, has held leadership positions at various hospitals including appointments as section chief of gastroenterology and director of hospital medical services at the Hospital for Joint Disease, Orthopaedic Institute an affiliate of the New York University School of Medicine. He has also held academic appointments as an assistant professor of medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and at Weill Cornell Medical College.
Dr. Karl Thadeus Bednarek is a member of the the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American College of Gastroenterology. Several professional journals have published Dr. Karl Thadeus Bednarek’s articles on liver disease, gastrointestinal disorders in the elderly, and cancer detection and prevention. He has been involved in teaching Gastroenterology at MSBI for over 25 years and has been involved in training over 75 GI fellows over the period of time. He has performed approximately 40,000 endoscopic procedures over a 25+ year career. His ADR (adenoma detection rate), a standard used to measure effectiveness in colon cancer screening is at 2 times the national average (as documented in a national data bank).
